Designated Funds Benton County Lilly Endowment Operating Fund supports the operations of the Community Foundation. Helen Staeck Towne Memorial Fund was established by Alice Pugacz in memory of her sister Helen. Earnings from the fund are designated for programs and materials at the Earl Park Public Library. Helen’s love of education and reading led her to study at Indiana University in Bloomington after her graduation from Earl Park High School in 1928. Upon receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree, Helen became a librarian in the South Bend Public Library System. Marilyn Fischbach Reading and Writing Fund was established by the Board of Directors in 2004 using college promotion dollars from Lilly Endowment Inc. Families of Lilly Endowment Community Scholars (LECS) are invited to honor a teacher whose professionalism contributed to the academic success of the LECS recipient. Promotion of the fund expanded to the local schools to encourage all families to honor teachers and school staff with gifts to the fund. Beginning in 2005, Benton Community Schools and Sacred Heart School faculties received grants from the fund for enrichment materials for their class programs. The Foundation envisions the growth of this fund into a permanent endowment for K-12 education. See news and events for current grantees. NICHES Land Trust Prairies Fund is an endowment established to support the restoration and conservation of historic prairies in central Indiana. Pay It Forward Fund was established by the Board of Directors to provide educational grants to individuals pursuing higher education. The funds are contributed by former Community Foundation scholarship recipients who are interested in providing future students with opportunities much like they have received.
