On behalf of the Dan Patch Conservation Club, Benton Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of a $500 scholarship established for students studying in the fields of conservation, natural resources, or wildlife. Lauren Lee, a Benton County native now studying at Purdue, will be the first recipient of this generous award.

Lauren is the daughter of Nancy and John Lee of rural West Lafayette. She is currently studying Forestry and Natural Resources in the School of Agriculture. While at Benton Central, Lauren was an active member of National Honor Society, Varsity Swim Team, Varsity Tennis Team, FFA, Stampede Newspaper, Spanish Club, and served as a class officer. She has been involved in her community as a 10 year member of 4-H and as a member of the Purdue Chapter of the Society of American Foresters. Lauren has also volunteered countless hours at the Fowler Theater and Lafayette Urban Ministry Food Pantry.

“My family’s lifestyle is rooted deep in the preservation of nature, therefore they have raised me to appreciate and understand the importance of conservation. From early childhood play, the interest in conservation emerged into a passion which drove me to get involved with out door activities during my teenage years and I began practicing stewardship of the land,” Lauren commented about her motivation to study in this field. When asked about her future plans, “After graduation, I plan on working with the Department of Natural Resources or park service in or around the Benton County area.”

The Dan Patch Conservation Club and Benton Community Foundation are pleased to honor Lauren’s dedication and achievements with this award. She is a shining example of an outstanding youth who wish to educate themselves so that they may better their community. For more information about this award or other scholarship programs at the Foundation, please contact Executive Director Ashley Bice at 765.884.8022.
