News & Events 6/14/2007 Due to the generosity of the late Pheobe Irwin, six students from Benton Central will receive scholarships for post-secondary education at a two-year college or in a skilled trade or craft program this year. Bradley Battering, Lauren Brost, Bradley Lane, Ryan Souligne, Curtis Shidler, and Kaylee Vestal will each receive an award of $6,000 to the institution of their choice. Bradley Battering is the son of Carolyn Leathermon of Fowler. While at Benton Central, Bradley participated on the Basketball, Football, and Wrestling teams. He was also a student in the Vocational Auto Mechanics Program. Since graduating midterm in December 2006, Bradley has been working at Holscher Products in Fowler. In the fall, he plans to study Welding and Mechanical Technology at Ivy Tech. Lauren Brost is the daughter of Mike and Kassy Budreau of rural Fowler. While at Benton Central she has participated in Cheerleading, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, and Spanish National Honor Society. She has also volunteered for Vacation Bible School and the Fowler Theater. Lauren’s involvement in the Education and Early Childhood program has motivated her to seek an Associates degree in Child Care from Ivy Tech. Bradley Lane is the son of David and Janet Lane of Fowler. During high school he has been an active member of FFA and participant in Intramural Sports. Bradley’s training in the Vocational Building Trades program has prepared him for the courses he will take in Building Technology at Vincennes University in the fall. Ryan Souligne, a 2006 graduate of Benton Central, is the son of Jim and Trudi Souligne of Fowler. He has been an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and studied in the Auto Mechanics Program at B.C. Ryan is currently enrolled in a 15-month program at Lincoln Tech in Indianapolis. He will graduate as an Auto Technician in November 2007. Curtis Shidler is the son of Mike and Tam Shidler of West Lafayette. At Benton Central he has been involved with the Soccer team, FFA, BC Outdoor Club, and Baseball. Curtis has also been an active member at St. Charles Catholic Church and participant in the Relay for Life. Curtis plans to study Fire Safety and Science in the fall at Vincennes University. Kaylee Vestal is the daughter of Jerry and Kim Vestal of West Lafayette. Her high school activities include National Honor Society, Spanish Club, and Varsity Wrestling Manager. Kaylee has been involved with the community through the Out of the Darkness Walk, Toys for Tots, Youth Group, and mission trips through Christian Service International. She will be studying in the Surgical Technology and Registered Nurse programs at Ivy Tech.
