Advisors of the Fitzgerald Family Endowment Fund recently nominated the recipients of the 2007 awards to the Benton Community Foundation Board of Directors, who then gave final approval.

Trent Harman of Fowler will receive a $5,000 scholarship for his post-secondary education and the Boswell Public Library has received a $3,500 grant for the purchase of new books.

Trent is the son of Janet Harman of Fowler. A current senior at Benton Central, Trent has demonstrated academic success while being involved with numerous school activities. He has played tennis for four years, served as a class officer, member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Phoenix Literary Magazine and has received the Academic Excellence Award. Trent has also been active in the community through 4-H, Community Activism Awareness Project and Relay for Life. After graduation, Trent plans to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Indianapolis.

The Boswell Public Library is indeed excited about the opportunity that this $3,500 grant will give them to expand their selection of reading materials for their patrons. Librarian Andrea Bowman is very thankful for the gift, “Words cannot express our gratitude to the Fitzgerald Family for this generous gift. The funds could not have come at a better time; due to a tight budget we have had limited means to purchase books. We will now have the ability to update our collections for the children and adults of the Boswell community.”

The Fitzgerald Family Endowment Fund is a donor-advised fund within Benton Community Foundation. Each year the anonymous advisors determine which charitable causes they would like to support with the earnings from the Fund. Once the Foundation Board of Directors has given their approval, funds can be disbursed at the wishes of the advisors.
