News & Events 8/14/2007 After two years of hard work and perseverance, the volunteers committed to bringing a Skate Park to Benton County have raised all of the necessary funding to make their dreams a reality. Benton Community Foundation has been awarded a grant from North Central Health Services (NCHS) in the amount of $28,780 for the $60,000 project. These funds will be used to purchase the remaining pieces of equipment for the Skate Park as well as donor recognition signs. Nancy Jackson, a self-proclaimed “Skateboard Mom” and the driving force behind the project is excited about the news of this grant, “This is truly the icing on the cake! I’m thrilled that this project is able to be completed so quickly due to the generosity of our community and the organizations that have given us grant money. I cannot wait to see the skaters using the new park and I hope it will bring years of enjoyment for future generations.” The volunteers are hopeful that the project can be completed this fall once the equipment is received, so long as the weather cooperates. Volunteers plan to raise additional funds for the finishing touches at the Park over the next few months. Youth are now able to hone their skills on a few pieces of equipment already installed at the Park. Supporters of the project are pleased that the skateboarders now have a safe environment where they can practice their sport. “This is a tremendous asset for a community of our size,” stated Ashley Bice, Executive Director of Benton Community Foundation. “I am very pleased with the hard work of this group of volunteers; their commitment to providing this unique recreational outlet for our youth is to be commended. The Foundation is excited to be a partner in this project that will benefit not only the youth of Benton County, but also in surrounding counties.” Benton Community Foundation and all of the volunteers supporting the Fowler Skate Park are grateful to NCHS for their generous support. NCHS is a medical services organization committed to addressing a wide range of health issues and to enhancing the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities. Along with Benton County, NCHS is proud to support non profit organizations in Carroll, Clinton, Fountain, Montgomery, Tippecanoe, Warren and White Counties.
