News & Events Foundation Announces Community Grants The Foundation awarded over $64,875 in the most recent cycle of community grants. Grants of $10,000 each were awarded to the Fowler Theatre restoration, Boswell-Grant Township Fire Department as matching funds for a brush truck, Fowler Little League for accessible consession stand and baths, and Otterbein Library for new furniture. Richland Township Fire Department received $9,700 for turn-out gear, and Sacred Heart School received $5,000 toward new playground equipment. Smaller but equally important grants were made to Fowler-Center Township Fire Department for smoke alarms, Hope Transit for operating expenses, Fowler Senior Center for lighting improvement, and Serenity Hospice Foundation for equipment in the volunteer program. The Foundation made an unsolicited "angel" grant of $1,000 to Benton County Habitat for Humanity toward the build of the 2004 house in Oxford. The Grants Committee, headed by Jim Schoen, Oxford, also committed funds for 2004 and 2005 to establish and maintain 211 information and referral service for Benton County. This is part of a national program to access health and human service information, including crisis referrals, FREE from any phone in Benton County via Lafayette Crisis Center. This important service will become available in the last quarter of 2004.
